Scott’s explorations

These are things I’m exploring. You could say they are intellectual adventures. They may seem random — I suppose they are — but I have many interests in life. I don’t think I’m limited to one grand purpose I must fulfill. In fact, I think this puts me at risk of a do-or-die scenario where, if I fail, my life becomes meaningless. Likewise, I’ve put labels on myself only to grow bigger and wiser. So, now, I like to keep the door open to new opportunities.

The Hero Series

Are we born with a special purpose?

What does it mean to be a hero? Does the world need to be saved? If so, who will get the job? I feel that I was born with a special purpose, and most people I talk to feel the same way. This series explores whether life is a game of king of the mountain, or if we are all gifted in our own way.

Bicycle Quotes

The oldest and best collection of bicycle quotes on the web

Riding a bicycle is the greatest metaphor for life! Well… I think so. That’s why I started collecting these timeless quotable quotes way back in the early 1990s. In fact, my website was the first to do so.

Oxygen Depletion

Have you ever wondered if humans are consuming oxygen faster than it can be replaced?

I have. It’s been an obsession of mine for over a decade. The Earth has actually run out of oxygen in the past. It could happen again. I recommend you start with Introduction to global oxygen depletion

Space

As you can see, I’ve always been fascinated with the final frontier. As we speak, my name is trundling around Mars on the Perseverance Rover. And before that, I was a finalist in the now-defunct Mars One mission.

Big Ideas

Have you ever looked at the world and wondered: “What if…?” I have! These are my doodles and musings about life, both the outer adventure and — more importantly — the inner journey. My ideas, many born on the seat of a bicycle, are sprinkled everywhere like seeds, and some grow up to be a book, or an adventure, or a work of art, or…

The Inner Journey

All journeys have an element of introspection, but these inner journeys focus on personal growth and finding oneself. You could also call this the hero’s journey, vision quest, coming-of-age ritual, spiritual awakening, enlightenment, self-transcendence, self-actualization and many other names.

Happiness/Sadness

Happy and sad are two sides of the same coin. You need both. For me, a key to happiness was accepting that being sad is also okay. However, I learned that chronic, out-of-control, indulgent sadness often led me to depression. Depression isn’t the kind of journey that I signed up for, but sometimes our challenge is to turn disadvantages into advantages — I call that falling uphill. These are some thoughts and a few tools that helped me, and that I think can benefit anyone trying to live a more fulfilling life. Here is my favorite article in this category:

How I make stuff

I’m not sure if I’m more of an adventurer at heart or more of an artist/author. But one thing is for sure: the adventure needs to come first. Adventure is my muse; my art is how I tell my story; and, my stories are meant to inspire, entertain and educate others. I truly want to make a contribution and help raise humanity to new levels of amazingness. Those are lofty ideals. Too lofty, probably.

Anyway, here are some Articles about how I concept ideas, draw pictures and — most importantly — test my ideas in the real world to make sure they work!
